Bell Clapper

This is a Bell Clapper dating back to the 16th or 17th century. The discovery of this bell clapper preserved through centuries also coincides with when the bells of St Georges Tower at Oxford Castle fell silent. St Georges Tower, a structure dating back to the 11th century is one of the oldest parts of Oxford Castle and onced served a crucial role as a bell tower. The bell at St Georges Tower ceased to function around the 16th to 18th century suggesting a direct connection between the artefact itself and this significant time in history.
