Manufactured by Farnsworth Television & Radio Corporation in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the BC-342-N was one of several HF radio receivers designed for reliable long-distance communication.
The BC-342-N ensured reliable communication for coordinating troop movements, conducting reconnaissance, and executing battle plans. Its reliability and versatility made it indispensable in various military operations.
Post-World War II, many BC-342-N receivers were sold as surplus, becoming popular among amateur radio enthusiasts.
